Our organization is based on the belief that any student from any school is invited to participate in the Young Musicians Community, aka, YMC, free of charge. As a result, 3rd Degree Burns continues to grow every year.
Third Degree Burns shares a commitment to the local community, performing in as many benefits as possible to raise money for foundations, school functions or specific families in need. We nurture the idea of "giving back", encouraging the youth members to experience the satisfaction of community service as an ordained goal for the program.
During the past ten years, our established organization has developed a strong foundation, not only because of volunteer commitment, but also due in a large part to the combined financial generosity of others. People see what 3rd Degree Burns Band does for the confidence level of these kids and they just want to be a part of it.
Experiencing the excitement of performing in a rock band is a gift that we can give to our young, local musicians. When we show them how to develop their talent, learn new life skills, and give back to the community, we are helping them be established models with satisfying, well-rounded lives.
YMC has received the public charity status with the IRS and generous donations are tax deductible. We are able to receive grants with our 501 (c) (3) status and we continue to help the surrounding communities. We hope you consider joining us on this endeavor to enrich the lives of the youth today and the hope for the future.
Your donations enable our community of kids to keep moving forward in their commitment to music while giving back to the community.
Concert performances, new equipment, instrument repairs, transportation, advertising supplies and everything we need to keep our kids learning for FREE and performing for fund raisers is made possible by free-will donations. Please specify when donating to the Danielle Shipley Scholarship or the Phoenix North 'Rise Above' Grant.

Who we are
Provide the FREE training of God's gifts of music and art to ALL children of all ages, all races, all social statuses and all physical handicaps regardless of national origin, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, for the benefit of their self value and confidence in order to help them enter the world as adults with skills that will benefit them their entire lives.
3rd Degree Burns began in a basement of a home in Metamora back in 2004 with just the music director, Gary Burns, his three children, his nieces, nephews and their friends. After only one year of putting together a song list and practicing weekly the group made their first appearance at an Open House in Imlay City. As the generosity of family, friends, and other interested parties began donating for the cause, music and band equipment was purchased for a more professional sound.
The following year, the band played in Cafes in downtown Lapeer as well as Marlette. Quickly, students from all areas around Lapeer generated interest in joining and no one who had a genuine and mature manner of practice and respect for their fellow musicians was turned away. We are currently entering our 13th year in a row of rock-on shows.
Since those early days, over 500 young musicians have participated in the YMC! Today, the 3rd Degree Burns bands include over 40 members and perform almost every weekend from June to September all over the state of Michigan.
Our venues include: Pix Theatre of Lapeer, Imlay City Gazebo and the Blueberry Festival, Metamora Days, Almont, Dryden, Bridgeport, Davison Festival of Flags, 'Walk the Beat' Musical Art Competition in Grand Haven, Lapeer Days, Flint Art Fair, Oxford Lone Ranger Festival, Royal Oak Arts Beats & Eats, Frankenmuth Autofest as well as our annual ROCKtober Festival and our own Annual Fundraiser Event.
